How do I remove a battery from a quartz watch?
Quartz watches typically have one of two different ways to remove the back. For the sake of your future watch collection, we'll cover them both, just in case!
If you look at the back and see 6 little notches evenly spaced around the edge, that is a screw-down back. It can be spun counter-clockwise to be removed. Though you don't necessarily need one, there are special tools available at most watch stores or jewelers to make it a little easier to remove that type of backing.
If you don't see those 6 notches, then it is a pop-off backing. Most of the time, there will be a small tab somewhere around the edge to help give you a little leverage to pop off the backing. It can often be difficult to see the tab, so feel all the way around the edge of the backing with your fingernail and you should be able to find it. You may need something thin to use as a wedge.
Hope this helps!
